You can expect to replace the battery about once a year.
A realistic approximation of your Plus LiPo battery’s lifespan should consider both its number of charge cycles and its age, as well as proper use and storage.
Your Home Plus LiPo battery is deemed to be past its useful lifespan when its capacity has declined to about 80% (13.44v) of its original capacity. The usable voltage range for a standard LiPo battery cell is 3.2v to 4.2v PER CELL. So the 4 cell Plus battery usable voltage range is 12.8v to 16.8v.
The maximum capacity is 16.8v which naturally declines over time and with use.
The battery can become permanently damaged in as little as three days, if not properly charged, used, or stored. See: Charging, Use, and Storage of the Plus Battery
Things that will assure you get the most out of our battery:
- Never leave the battery connected to the drive when not actively in use. It can continue to drain - permanently damaging the battery.
- Do not allow the battery voltage to drop below 12.8V (3.2v per cell) - this may permanently damage the battery.
- Never overcharge batteries beyond 16.8v (higher than 4.2v per cell) will significantly increase the risk of a battery bursting into flames.
- Never keep your LiPo battery at full charge for more than 2-3 days. If you are not going to use your battery after fully charging it, you need to discharge your battery down to 3.6v-3.8v per cell (14.4v-15.2v) for safe storage.
- Following all the charging instructions found in this help center.
CAUTION: The battery should always be allowed to come to room-temperature before charging. Charging a hot or cold battery might delay charging or damage the battery. For best results, charge the battery at temperatures between 50º and 80ºF (10º-30ºC).
