Chase! Course Size
Chase! can run a course up to about 100 feet total (25 feet per side for a square course) - this assumes using the main drive unit and a single field pulley, but your maximum may be smaller depending on the conditions of your setup: type of terrain: long/tall grass, uneven ground; an incline; type of lure; number of pulleys - each pulley adds more drag and may require a reduction in the overall course size to compensate.
If the app is throwing warnings, or the drive is jerking, hesitating, running erratically, or refusing to run, it may have been overtaxed.
First: Power Cycle (Reset) the Drive
Once Chase! has been overtaxed, it may continue to act up even with the line removed or after the course has been reduced. Changing the course size will not reset the drive.
If the drive is acting up:
- Remove the line.
- Unplug the drive for at least 30 seconds. For best results, leave it unplugged for 2–3 minutes.
- Plug the drive back in.
- If necessary, press the pairing button until the blue light on the bottom begins blinking again. This indicates the drive has reset and is receiving power. see: Chase paring button on device
- Test the drive without the line attached. Do not continue troubleshooting the course until the drive is running normally by itself.
Then: Find Your Maximum Course Size
Once the drive is running normally:
- Start with a 60–80 foot course (15–20 feet per side for a square).
- Confirm the drive runs normally.
- Gradually increase the course size until performance starts to decline.
- Return to the last size that ran reliably. This is your maximum course size.
TIP: Test the drive by itself after every course adjustment before testing the course. If it acts up again, stop and power cycle the drive before continuing.
Keep in Mind
Your maximum course size may change when conditions change. Anything that adds drag can require a smaller course, including:
- A heavier lure
- Taller or thicker grass
- Increased line tension
- Additional pulleys
- Uneven terrain
