Plus Battery will not charge/hold a charge

If your Plus battery stops charging, or will not hold a charge, it has become damaged. You should not continue to try to charge or use it.

Any number of tings can cause this to happen. Below are a few - and the links provide more information.

The LiPo battery requires very specific handling. It can go bad in as little as three days. To prevent inadvertently damaging the battery, see this article for charging instructions: Charging, Use, and Storage of the Plus Battery

Your Home Plus 14.8v battery has four internal cells which are balanced during the last stage of the charging cycle. This is the reason you need to always charge the battery to maximum capacity before EACH use. See more here: Why recharge the battery for each use?

In case you are wondering about this, see this article: Recharge Before Fully Discharging - YES!

NORMAL OPERATION: When you plug the battery into the charger - the readout display will show a voltage between 12.8v and 16.8v - when the readout reaches the maximum capacity, the battery is fully charged. Note: the maximum capacity declines over time - this is normal. When the capacity drops to 80% (13.44v) it has reached the end of its lifespan. See more Plus Battery Voltages to know

Your battery is damaged if:

  • The battery will not take a charge
  • The voltage drops lower than 12.8v even just once (you will see the voltage when you first plug it into the charger)
  • The battery is swollen
  • The battery will not hold a charge.

CAUTION: The battery should always be allowed to come to room-temperature before charging. Charging a hot or cold battery might delay charging or damage the battery. For best results, charge the battery at temperatures between 50º and 80ºF (10º-30ºC).
